THE COMBATITANTS

Paul defeats Askren.jpg

JAKE PAUL (3-0)

Jake is now 3-0 in the boxing ring. Many question his legitimacy. His wins came from defeating a Youtube star who’s never boxed before, a retired Basketball player who also has never been in a boxing match and his most recent win was a first round KO of Former UFC Star Ben Askren. Ben is by far his biggest win, however many point to the lack of skill in the stand up that Ben has displayed his whole career. There’s no doubt that Paul can box, but the question is; can he really hang with an elite athlete or is he hand picking opponents to pad his record?

Woodley.jpg

TYRONE WOODLEY (0-0)

Woodley has not competed in the boxing ring before. He is a former UFC Welterweight champion w/ wins in the Octagon over Robbie Lawler, Darren Till, Stephen Thompson, Josh Koscheck and more. He made a career out of putting people to sleep like Koscheck and Lawler. He’s nearly 40 and hasn’t won a fight in over 3 years since he lost his title to Kamaru Usman. Regardless of his age and down swing in performance the man is still an assassin in any combat sport. Word is that he’ll be training w/ Floyd Mayweather Jr. for this bout. On paper, this should be a KO for Tyrone but as we’ve seen in the past, the impossible is possible w/ these boxing bouts.

The fight was trending and the world was watching. The match was interesting with Tyrone Woodley controlling the action throughout but was extremely reluctant to pull the trigger. For the most part Paul was backing up on the ropes however he’d jab in and out and land shots, albeit not fight ending shots but he was scoring points.

The Biggest moment of the fight came in the 4th round when Tyrone landed a thunderous right hand and put Jake nearly out. He fell back against the ropes and was saved by the ropes. Woodley was unable to capitalize on the action and went back to being hesitant in the later part of the round and into the next rounds…

Despite Woodley’s feelings Jake would win a Split decision. Making him 4-0 in Boxing. It wasn’t the most impressive win on Jake’s record but he did show he can go 8 rounds and overcome adversity as well.
